How to Help the Jewish People in the former Soviet Union

While watching a program today that was soliciting help for the Jewish people of the former Soviet Union, I was certainly touched by it.  It is amazing how these people are presently being treated, and although I am not of Jewish descent I believe that God expect his people to help his people.  We should no longer turn our backs or hide our faces from the plight of suffering and evil as it persists in our world today.

These people have always worked tirelessly to provide for their families, but because of who they are, God fearing, living in a commune system, obeying the laws of the Torah, society feels that they should be expunged from the earth (cast into the Mediterranean Sea), as a result, (their history has recorded their cruel treatment).  Their possessions were confiscated; many were murdered, and let us not forget what happened to them under the hands of Stalin, Hitler and other evil people who envied them for whatever wealth they owned.  We also remember their expulsion from Spain, France, England, Poland, Russia, and Germany and from all the other countries of Europe, Asia and Cuba in the western hemisphere.

In the New Testament, the Lord Jesus said that Rachael would be “weeping for her children”, and she sure is.  From watching the program, I saw very elderly persons lacking food, medicines, medical supplies, funds and all the necessary amenities to sustain life.  Sometimes I wonder how the governments of those countries sit idly by and allow such sufferings to continue.

There are, however, people of Jewish descent who are willing to help their fellow brethren and have produced various programs bringing the suffering and the plight of these people to the forefront of the world.  At this point let me introduce the work being done by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, whose program can be viewed on this website:  http://www.ifcj.org/.

I trust that my effort in echoing the Rabbi to highlight the suffering of these elderly will arouse your passion in contributing to the welfare of these people.  Weekly feeding programs, medicines, heat, especially now that the winter season is approaching, and money are desperately in demand.  Your contributions to this worthy cause, will be greatly appreciated as God had said in his words that whoever bless the seed of Abraham will be blessed by Him; Genesis 12:3, “I will bless them that bless thee”.

I trust that you are being inspired to help these people as they are counting on everyone of us who reads this article to help them.
